Become a Trustee at Jubilee House

Give back to the community

The Trustees of Jubilee House Care Trust are responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the charity. They ensure the organisation is well-governed, financially sustainable, and compliant with legal and regulatory requirements, while safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of the children, young people, and adults we support. Working closely with the senior leadership team, the Trustees set the charity’s direction, monitor performance, and make sure services are delivered safely, ethically, and in line with Jubilee House’s vision and values.

Trustee Role Overview

Our Trustees Are a Key Part of the Support We Provide

In simple terms, you will be supporting the Chairperson in steering the direction of the charity and ensuring compliance with Governance and charitable objectives. You will be making a real difference to the local community, acting as an ambassador for and representing the Charity as required.

As a Trustee (Non-Executive Director) at Jubilee House Care Trust (JHCT), you will help build on the performance of our services for adults and children with learning disabilities and autism and their families in Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

It’s all about improving our decisions and shaping our strategic direction to have a positive impact on our services as we look forward to a future of growth and change.

Key duties

The duties of a Trustee Board Member are to:

• Contribute actively to the Board of Trustees by supporting the strategic direction of JHCT, setting overall policies and evaluating performance against agreed targets

• Safeguard the good name and values of JHCT

• Ensure the financial stability and longevity of JHCT

• Ensure that JHCT complies with its governing document (its Articles of Association), charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations

• Ensure that JHCT pursues its objects as defined in its governing document(s)

• Ensure JHCT applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be

• Support and guide the CEO and senior leadership team as required

Alongside the statutory duties, each Trustee is encouraged to use their individual skills, knowledge, and experience to support the Board in making well-informed decisions. This may include leading discussions, highlighting key issues, offering advice on new initiatives, or sharing expertise in specific areas. Trustees should also be willing to provide constructive challenge where needed to ensure the best outcomes.

Time Commitment

You will need to be available 1 to 2 evenings every month to attend Trustee meetings and participate in one of our other Committees, Finance, Governance and Operations. Meetings are up to 2 hours. You will also be required to attend 1 strategy away day per year and the AGM each November.

Trustee Recruitment Journey

Join Our Team – Make a Difference!

The why…

Jubilee House Care Trust (JHCT) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the adults, children and young people we support, and we ask that all employees and volunteers share this commitment.

The first step to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the individuals we support is through sound procedures, good inter-stakeholder cooperation and the recruitment and retention of competent, motivated and values led people across our employee team and our volunteers, including our Trustees.

What you can expect…

• A telephone conversation with our CEO

• Some forms to fill in to determine your skillset, identify referees and complete an eligibility check

• A Skills Interview, in person, with the CEO and either the Chairman or another Trustee

• A confidential Personal Interview, with an external specialist and our HR Advisor (neither of whom sit on the Board)

• An Enhanced DBS check (Adults and Children)

• If appointed, you will be contacted by the CEO to notify you

• Your appointment then needs to be formally ratified at the next Board Meeting – before you can attend

• A bit more paperwork…

• Service visits to at least 2-3 of our 8 services, when you can meet some of our brilliant operations team members (this can all be done in 1 day)

• Some training in Safeguarding adults and children and some Better Boards eLearning

• You will then be able to join us at the next Board Meeting as a fully-fledged Trustee

• We’ll also need you to sit on one additional subcommittee – once every three months

We hope you enjoy your time with us at Jubilee House Care Trust
